Free cad software for pc9/10/2023 ![]() ![]() You are the target audience of development.You can run it on your platform and os of choice.It's not spying on you, and you can be sure about that. ![]() It will be always free, can't change licensing options suddenly.I cannot, however, wholeheartedly recommend any parametric CAD programs that are open source. Keep in mind that F360 is NOT open source and is potentially vulnerable to requiring paid subscription in the future if Autodesk decides to go that route. Plus, I'm a fan of GNU/open source projects in general. I've never used Blender but it's pretty clear that it's a top-notch program with great features and a lot of community support. I'm a product-design-engineer-turned-equipment-design-engineer by trade, and I mainly use Solidworks ($$$) at work and Fusion360 (free) outside of work. Top recommended free direct CAD program (for creating aesthetic models): Blender Technically (like PTC/Creo/ProEngineer) it can do direct modelling too, but I've found it not to be worthwhile to do so. Top recommended free parametric CAD program (for building functional parts): Autodesk Fusion360. If you make characters in a video game that were designed in a parametric CAD program, your audience will laugh at you and not buy your game because it will look abhorrent. If you ask a machine shop to make you something that was designed in a direct CAD program, they'll laugh at you and not make your part because it will be difficult. These programs are used to make video game characters, smooth/organic shapes, and concepts that don't need to necessarily be able to be built easily. ![]() In direct CAD programs, visual design is the emphasis. Parametric CAD programs are used in industrial and engineering applications, when you're more concerned with the performance of a part. In parametric CAD programs, it's set up to allow you to enter parameters (such as direct dimensions) that make fabrication and physical assembly possible. There are two general ballparks of CAD - parametric and direct/nonparametric. ![]()
